Our Projects
Some of our current projects include tutoring in Brookline Elementary and Middle Schools, supplying summer reading books, organizing book drives, and leading fundraisers. Learn more below.
Projects
Tutoring
Tutors inspire a life-long love of books and strengthen literacy skills through a combination of partnered reading, structured games, art projects, and thematic trips. The program also trains Brookline High School students to become leaders, tutors, and positive role models. We work to foster an appreciation for service and social justice in high school students, and an example of such for the elementary students.
Holiday Reading
Reading shouldn't stop outside of the classroom. We provide books for students to read over school breaks, including the summer. Reading has been proven to have immense benefits on a child's mental and developmental health, regardless of race, religion, class, or gender. No child should be held back because they can't access or find books that they enjoy, no matter the time of year.
Steps to Success
We support students in the Steps to Success program by providing books that they pick out for themselves with the help of Scholastic. We provide books for summer-reading, holiday-reading as well as for fun during the school year.
Book Drives
Book drives are a core part of what we do at the BLP to help out our community. We take book donations year-round to give to children in need across Massachusetts. Find our bins at Brookline High School and Brookline elementary schools - easily drop off any used books. It's much appreciated!
